OGH Welcomes New Surgeons to Our Team

August 16, 2019 – Ochiltree General Hospital is proud to announce the addition of three general surgeons to the medical staff of your local hospital. In order to begin offering additional surgical services prior to the arrival of Dr. Jay Blasingame in the summer of 2020, OGH has partnered with Dr. Bleu Schniederjan, Dr. Bo Neichoy and Dr. Darren Peterson of the Panhandle Weight Loss Center in Amarillo, Texas.

Dr. Schniederjan was born in Amarillo, Texas, and was raised on a farm near Dalhart, TX. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in agronomy from Texas Tech University. In 2004, he graduated medical school from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. Upon graduation from medical school, he was awarded the Gold Headed Cane, an honor given to him by his peers. He completed his general surgery residency at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, where the majority of his training was in bariatric and advanced laparoscopic surgery, and was awarded Chief Resident of the Year. After residency, he and his wife Lacie moved to New York City where he did 6 months of cardiothoracic surgery fellowship training at Weill-Cornell Medical College. He decided to move back near home to focus on his family.

Dr. Neichoy was born in Beaumont, Texas, and spent his childhood on the Texas coast in the small town of High Island. After earning his bachelor’s degree in biomedical science from Texas A&M University in 2003, he moved to Houston to begin medical school at the University of Texas. Following graduation from medical school in 2007, Dr. Neichoy moved to Gainesville, Florida, where he began his general surgery training. The University of Florida provided Dr. Neichoy with extensive training in advanced laparoscopic and minimally invasive techniques including all components of weight loss surgery. After completing his surgical residency in Florida, Dr. Neichoy and his wife moved back to Texas to be closer to family and friends.

Dr. Darren Peterson is a native of Texas and a long time Red Raider. He originally graduated from Texas Tech in 1990 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and spent several years in the defense industry at Lockheed Martin in Florida before migrating back to Texas to change gears. Returning to Texas Tech he received graduate degrees in Chemistry and Biology before entering medical school at the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center in 1997. Dr. Peterson developed a passion for Minimally Invasive Laparoscopic and Robotic surgery. In 2015 Dr. Peterson joined the Texas Tech Department of Surgery as an Associate Professor of Surgery helping to establish the Division of Minimally Invasive Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgery.

Drs. Schniederjan, Neichoy and Peterson will be available on alternating Wednesdays with surgeries in the morning and clinical appointments beginning at 1:00 p.m. Referrals can be requested through your local primary care provider. If you would like to make an appointment with one of the doctors above, please contact the DeWitt Family Practice at 806-648-9355.
