December 31, 2020 – Ochiltree General Hospital is thrilled to announce the first doses of a COVID-19 vaccine manufactured by Moderna have been delivered to the Family Health Center and been administered here in Ochiltree County. Though the first round of vaccine doses available to Ochiltree General - courtesy of Dr. Rex L. Mann - were allocated to frontline healthcare workers, our hope is that in the very near future Ochiltree General will receive further doses of vaccine to be made available to those in our community who would like to be vaccinated.
Ochiltree General Hospital and your local healthcare providers would like to reiterate that the supply of vaccine is allocated per facility at the moment and Ochiltree General does not know when we will receive another shipment of vaccine. However, when our facility receives another shipment, hospital and medical staff will work together to develop a plan for distributing the vaccine throughout our community.
Even after the vaccine is distributed in our county, it will remain the responsibility of each and every person to try to slow down the spread of COVID-19. Our community can reduce the spread of COVID-19 by wearing a mask and keeping a distance of at least six feet. Washing hands frequently and using hand sanitizer is also advised. As we enter into flu season, these safety precautions will become even more important. Your local hospital has received word about the COVID-19 vaccine, but dates on availability seem to change day to day. As soon as we get definitive information on release dates, we will make the public aware of how the vaccine is going to be distributed locally.
The full-service onsite Laboratory Department at Ochiltree General is proud to offer COVID-19 PCR testing as well as antibody testing 24 hours a day, seven days a week with a physician’s order. For a list of local primary care physicians, please visit www.ochiltreehospital.com/physicians.
