OGH Receives Grant for New Equipment

February 5, 2020 – Ochiltree General Hospital is thrilled to announce that the Harrington Cancer and Health Foundation has awarded our hospital a $250,000.00 grant to purchase new surgical equipment. As part of the Capital Campaign project, Ochiltree General is looking to meet the future needs of our community through updated surgical services.

“On behalf of the HCHF we are pleased to award this grant to Ochiltree General to assist in purchasing equipment needed to facilitate growth and provide services to Perryton and the surrounding areas. The mission of HCHF is to reduce the burden of cancer and to promote and serve the healthcare needs of residents living in Amarillo and the surrounding areas,” says Harrington Cancer and Health Foundation Board member Krista Courson. “Rural hospitals are an integral part of their communities since they are often the first and closest resource for people in small towns. Residents in outlying communities deserve quality care that they don't have to travel miles to receive.”

The funds from the Harrington Foundation are earmarked for vital updates to the surgical suite, equipment and services at Ochiltree General to best optimize the hospital for the next 50 years. Equipment purchased with the grant include a full-sized GE C-Arm, a state-of-the-art Fujifilm ultrasound machine, a Stryker arthroscopy tower for orthopedic procedures, arthroscopy cameras and lenses, a tourniquet machine, a McGrath Mac video laryngoscope, LifePack defibrillators and a rapid pressure infuser.

“For Perryton this is very important because we are so far away from tertiary care that we need to do everything we can to improve and expand our services as much as possible,” says Chief of Medical Staff at Ochiltree General Dr. Rick Siewert. “For our local hospital to thrive, we have to be able to change and morph into an organization which meets the needs of our community. With this equipment we are poised to do just that well into the future.”
